Color Me Purple.

So I must admit- I love many things purple. Growing up, my bedroom was purple (with a chartreuse ceiling, black trim and black carpeting), I wore purple Doc Martens, dyed my hair purple for my 8th grade graduation, wore various shades of purple, and only ate purple foods. That last part was a lie, but sounded so good. I wish I thought of it back then.

Anyhow, it’s hard for me to resist all things purple. Even though I recently condemned Lady Gaga, I have to say that I might have a change of heart, looking at this recent photo of her new haircut/color…It’s all about the tips here, and I really like what I see.

Going Back to My Roots.

I was actually born in New York, but have recently become an acceptable Vietnamese. Before, I was just Vietnamese on the outside, White Girl on the inside. Now, I’m eating at Vietnamese restaurants, hanging with Vietnamese people.

A bunch of friends are going to Vietnam for a wedding this weekend, and when I saw them last night at dinner, they invited me to join. This weekend. Vietnam.

Of course I said yes! After a few hurdles (a passport that expires in 3 months - you must have at least 6 months left- and the price of the ticket and visa, etc…), I’m pretty much all set to go. All I need now is a little help from you.

If you’ve been or know anyone who’s been, please send me recommendations of sights to see. I’ll be in Saigon (HCMC) for a few days, and then on to Dalat for the wedding (as a crasher). And if I make it back on the 24th, you’ll be the first to know.

Are You Excited For This Too?

You should be. Phoenix is amazing. Download a track here. And then play it over and over like I do- It will make you forget about the shitty economy and that you’re going for broke with your own little clothing line that you started without a business plan…

Two Things I Need for Fall 09.

Prada’s thigh-high wader-boots, the furry cardigan, the embellished dress, and the money to buy them all. Wait, that’s four things…I lied. And yet, there’s more to come…

Eat. Play. Enjoy An Choi.

An old friend and some new ones, too,  just opened up a Vietnamese restaurant on the Lower East Side called An Choi. It’s a very casual, laid-back establishment, and their specialties are báhn mì and pho, two of the best foods ever. I’m scheduling all of my dinners there from now on. One down, a zillion more to go.

If you’re in the area, please check it out sometime. Currently, a preview menu is running, but I think the pho will be flowing starting this weekend. It’s BYOB for now.

An Choi 85 Orchard Street | Near Broome (212) 991-9880

It shares the address with another restaurant, so make sure you hit the correct one. It’s on the left.

Punishment or Fetish? Or Both?

Either way, it’s just gross:

“My mom licked me - that was her punishment. If I was a little uppity or if I didn’t listen or if she wanted to get my attention, she’d lick the side of my face or under my armpit. My mom’s a six-foot-tall amazon and she’d say, ‘’You came out of my vagina and I own every part of you,’’ and she’d lick me like I was her wee pup and she was a lioness. It was humiliating and really intense. Very primal. It’s not spanking, but it definitely works.”

-Rosario Dawson in T. But I didn’t read T, I got it from Perez Hilton. I’m lowbrow.

Thanking the Lord, The Academy

But seriously, isn’t it nice to be recognized by your peers? I think of Refinery29 as the coolest club in school, and they just did a little write-up of my Fall 09 Collection for Duskin. Check it out here.

Gag Me With a Gaga

Seriously, I don’t get it. I’ve never heard her music, so maybe that’s why…but I just can’t stand to look at her for one more second. I won’t even touch on the outfit, because she obviously wore that for attention. Which she got. Is getting. Here. But no more…

Please, GO-GO AWAY! NOW!

*Oh, but I do like those nude Louboutin pumps. Give them to me.

Clothes Call: Backwards Day

Because it’s all about the shoes in this one.

The days and nights are blurring, but this was Saturday, January 31. I went to a gallery opening/dinner, and then met up with about 1/2 the Steeez crew, OUTFITS OUTFITS (your blog is amazing), and Charlie Tu Eats (I don’t need an apartment anymore, thanks) at Colin’s birthday. It was, by far, the most amount of men I had ever seen in one room, at one time.

They all ignored me.

To the (0)Nines.

I unpacked a little more, so I don’t have to continue Photoshopping the embarrassing mess of a background out. Thank god. That takes a lot of time. Next up, is coming up with a new name for these outfit posts because there clearly isn’t much dressing up to the 9’s….Any suggestions?

After running the half-marathon last Sunday, I decided to run (eh…limp…) over to American Apparel and buy a pair of sweatpants. My friend was wearing a pair for the race, and they looked comfortable, and well-cut. I thought about them for the whole 13.1 miles in the bitter cold. I knew I was going to be really sore, and want to lounge around the rest of the day, so I went straight from the race to pick up my reward. Unfortunately, it was still 30 minutes too early, and I stood outside hoping they’d take pity on me and let me in. They didn’t. I went home, ate a banana and drank some coffee (a post-run MUST). 30 minutes later, I returned to the store, bought my sweats, and basically have not taken them off since, except for showers and some social activity…So here they are, in all their glory, worn with a pair of Lanvin heels, just to class it up a bit.

Today’s outfit is courtesy of:

T SHIRT: J CREW
LACE SLIP: VICTORIA’S SECRET
SWEAT PANTS: AMERICAN APPAREL
ANIMAL PRINT SOCKS: THE SOCK MAN
PLATFORM PUMPS: LANVIN

What I looked like after the race, after the jump! (more…)
